You don’t need to see the whole of the mountain in order to climb it. One of my aims with both the materials on this site and the regular talks I give around the country is to give you “the courage to take the next step”, be it your first or when well along your path.
The Four Keys to success
If you are not happy about something in your life or career, then it is up to you change. I honestly believe that whatever you want to grow or change in your life or business there are four Key things that you need to do in order to make it happen.
Step 1. Goals/ A reason/ A why
Ok so that sounds a bit broad! Over the years I have heard many people talking about how to set goals: you have to do this or you have to do that in order for it to work. I have sometimes found my self so tied up in the specifics of “their” process that I have lost myself. However whenever I have committed to goals in some form they have worked!

I am presuming that if you are reading this you are looking for growth or change. For either of those out comes having goals is something you need to embrace.
When I first came across someone telling me that I should set goals, it was something I hadn’t ever considered. I wasn’t particularly impressed with this person at the time, but I did want my business to grow. I went home and very secretly in small letters where no-one could find them wrote the things I would like to achieve that year. To my amazement, all the things I wrote down happened in the next six months. Since that experience I have used many techniques: I always spend some time writing; I love making dream boards; and because it suits my personality, I will sometimes find a way of telling a lot of people. The later is a real motivator for me!
The underlying importance of all this is working out what we really want and making a commitment to our-self.
Often in my business I talk to people about what they want, or what they would like to achieve. I regulary hear people saying “well I am just going to see what happens”. From experience I know what happens and that is not a lot! If we set some intentions and then follow through with action we are going to move closer to where we want to be.
If you are old enough to read this you know that life isn’t always easy. There are days we don’t want to get out of bed or do the things that need to be done. If we have no why, no reason or no goals, it is much harder to do the “stuff”. Setting goals will make your life easier!

If you haven’t already started this process, start by thinking about what is important to you, what sort of things you would like to achieve. Start dreaming about who you would like to become. Think about what your purpose is, why you do things. What makes you leap out of bed. I recommend that you relax and don’t rush this process. Start with some ideas, you will find that over the weeks months and years your goals evolve and grow. Don’t put pressure on yourself, and trust that things will become clearer. Start by writing a few things that you think you would like to do/achieve, but be open to them changing.

Step 2. You need to create a habit
So you have set some goals. Unless you take some action towards that goal it will remain just a pipe dream. Change is often difficult due to the habits we are in. If we are trying to loose weight for instance it may be to substitute that daily piece of cake with a piece of fruit.
Looking at the change or growth you want it is important to identify the one or two absolutely key things that HAVE to happen for your business or life style to change. People sometimes come back to me and say, but there are loads of things I have to do. I recommend that you write a list of things that have to happen and keep delving deeper until you really have the few things that effect everything else. It is hard to work on more than one or two at any one time. I suggest you try to get it down to a maximum of three. However if it is as many as five, prioritise them and work on them one or two at a time.
In our business one of the most important things is to have opportunities to show our product, so we need selling opportunities in our diary; diary booking is pretty key. However delving a bit deeper to get the diary bookings we need to talk to people. So the absolutely key habit is to talk to people about our business. I recommend that every day my team and myself talk to at least one potential customer to ask if they would like to have a few friends round to see our cards. Those of us that genuinly do this every day have have real success in the business, because we take action on a key driver.

Success for anybody is determined by whether or not action is taken. Often it is easy for the first few days, you are fired up and determined to keep on track. By day three you are really pleased with yourself that things are going so well. Then something completely unexpected happens on day four. You think “oh it’s OK for one day”, but then it is easy to slip out of the habit. Just like the dieter who has extra chips at tea time because they ate a chocolate they were offered earlier in the day. Beware the break, and get back on track as soon as possible. Whenever we lose momentum it takes effort to get back. It requires pracitse and persistence. I keep a note in my diary of the key thing I have to do each day. When I have done it I draw a smiley face at the top of the page in my diary. Tracking what you do is really important in forming a habit. It also makes you feel good because you can be confident that you have done something really important towards your goals.
Find a mentor or a buddy. Being successful as we have discussed requires setting goals and then taking action to achieve those goals. It is soooo..much easier to keep on track if you make yourself accountable with someone else’s help. You can do this with a friend or coach. One of the many wonderful things about network marketing, is that the person who introduces you to the business should want to help you be successful. They should be a really great person to mentor or buddy with you. If you have committed to yourself that you are going to take certain actions, the knowledge that you will have to admit to your buddy that you haven’t done something, is often enough to get you back on track. So choose your buddy wisely, someone who has your best interests at heart, not some one that will say oh never mind!
It is said that it takes thirty days to make a habit. If you can find a way to commit to your key drivers and do the action you need daily; things will start to change. I have seen this over and over in my business, when people commit to a daily conversation (our key driver – something that can take less than five minutes) their business transforms.
